Explanation

Hirakud Dam is a multi-purpose project built on the Mahanadi River in the state of Odisha. It is about 60.96 metres (maximum) high and 4.8 km in length (length of the main dam). The total length of the dam is 25.8 km. Through this project, irrigation is provided to about 155635/159106 hectares of Kharif crops and 108385 hectares of Rabi crops.
