Explanation

The Non-Cooperation Movement was formally launched on 1 August 1920. Due to the Chauri-Chaura incident on 4 February 1922, the Congress Working Committee, in its meeting held at Bardoli on 12 February 1922, decided to suspend the movement. Thereafter, on 10 March 1922, Mahatma Gandhi was arrested. Gandhiji delivered his first major public speech at the Banaras Hindu University.
