Explanation

The Non-Cooperation Movement was formally launched on 1 August 1920. In it, thousands of students left government-controlled schools, headmasters and teachers submitted resignation letters, and lawyers gave up their legal practice. It is noteworthy that people from both urban and rural areas participated in this movement, and it was the largest mass movement of the freedom struggle up to that time. In the council elections held then, the Justice Party of Madras participated and won 63 seats.
