The Nawab of Bengal, Shuja-ud-Din, appointed Alivardi Khan as the Naib Subedar (Deputy Governor) of Bihar in 1733 AD. During the time of Nawab Sarfaraz of Bengal, Alivardi Khan, the Naib Subedar of Bihar, revolted and killed Sarfaraz Khan in the Battle of Giria (1740 AD). In 1740 AD, Alivardi Khan became the Nawab of Bengal.
