Show answer and explanation

Correct answer: (d) 1178 AD

Explanation

Muhammad Ghori attacked Gujarat in 1178 AD. At that time, the Anhilwad Chalukya ruler of Gujarat was Mularaja II. Naika Devi, the widowed mother of Mularaja II, acted as his guardian and led the Chalukya (Solanki) army against Ghori. Near Mount Abu, on the field of Kasahrada, the Chalukya/ Solanki army defeated Muhammad Ghori. This was Ghori’s first defeat in India. Some sources also mention this invasion (1178 AD) during the reign of Bhima II. This confusion probably arises because Mularaja II’s reign ended in 1178 AD and Bhima II’s reign began in the same year. However, most historians accept Mularaja II as the Chalukya/Solanki ruler of Gujarat at the time of Ghori’s invasion (1178 AD).
