Show answer and explanation

Correct answer: (b) 1940

Explanation

On 22–24 March, 1940, the Muslim League session was held at Lahore. It was presided over by Muhammad Ali Jinnah. In this session, a resolution was passed demanding ‘independent states’ for the Muslims of the north-western and eastern regions; this is known as the ‘Lahore Resolution’. Later, this ‘Lahore Resolution’ came to be known as the ‘Pakistan Resolution’. However, it is noteworthy that this resolution mentioned neither partition nor the word ‘Pakistan’. In the Lahore Resolution, it was stated that separate independent states should be formed by grouping together the Muslim-majority regions of north-western and eastern India—not a single independent nation. Some people at that time interpreted it as a demand for two independent countries (India and Pakistan). However, the Lahore Resolution (Pakistan Resolution) later paved the way for the creation of Pakistan.
