Correct answer: (c) Tipu Sultan

Explanation

The Third Anglo–Mysore War (1790–92) ended with the Treaty of Srirangapatnam (March,1792). In this treaty, Cornwallis represented the British side and Tipu Sultan represented Mysore. According to its terms, Tipu had to cede nearly half of his territory to the British and their allies, and he also had to pay three crore rupees to the British as war indemnity. The treaty further provided that until Tipu paid about three crore rupees (330 lakh rupees), his two sons would remain in British custody. After this treaty, Cornwallis remarked—“We have effectively crippled our enemy without making our friend too formidable.”
