Show answer and explanation

Correct answer: (a) Bihar and Maharashtra

Explanation

At the time of the question, three new states had not been formed. At that time, Bihar had 54 Lok Sabha seats and Maharashtra had 48. With the formation of three new states in the year 2000, the numbers changed. Now the position is as follows—

  • First position—Uttar Pradesh (80 seats)
  • Second position—Maharashtra (48 seats)
  • Third position—West Bengal (42 seats)

Madhya Pradesh has 29 seats, Tamil Nadu 39 seats and Bihar 40 seats.
