After a journey of 24 days, on 6 April, 1930 at Dandi, he symbolically broke the Salt Law, and the Civil Disobedience Movement began. During this period in Bihar, along with making salt, people also protested against the Chowkidari tax. The protest against the Chowkidari tax was highly successful in Bihar.
