The story of Padmini is based on the poetic work ‘Padmavat’, written in 1540 AD by Malik Muhammad Jayasi. According to it, Padmini was the extremely beautiful and learned wife of Rana Ratan Singh of Chittor. Amir Khusro mentioned the love episode of Solomon and the Queen of Sheba in his work, and in his hints he compared Alauddin to Solomon and Padmini to Sheba. Probably on this basis, Malik Muhammad Jayasi composed Padmavat, and the story of Queen Padmini as the queen of Rana Ratan Singh took shape.
