- DDevagiri
Show answer and explanation
Correct answer: (c) Bhilsa
Explanation
Alauddin (Ali Gurshasp), the nephew and son-in-law of Sultan Jalaluddin Khilji, was governor of Kara (near Allahabad). In 1293 he raided Bhilsa (Vidisha, Madhya Pradesh) and brought back great wealth. As a reward, Jalaluddin gave him Awadh as well, and made him *ariz-i-mamalik* (head of the army department).
With these resources he raided Devagiri in 1296, then killed Jalaluddin and became Sultan the same year.
