Which of the following sites has yielded a short inscription in the Harappan script with huge letters?
- ABanawali
- BKalibangan
- CMohenjo-daro
- DDholavira
Show answer and explanation
Correct answer: (d) Dholavira
Explanation
Dholavira, in the Rann of Kutch (Gujarat), has yielded the famous "signboard": an inscription of ten large Harappan signs, each about 37 cm high, far larger than the tiny signs on seals. The signs were made of pieces of white gypsum, probably set into a wooden board about 3 m long. It was found in a side room of the northern gateway of the citadel, so it may have been put up to be seen from a distance.
Dholavira, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2021, is also known for its large water reservoirs.
