Explanation

The National Commission to Review the Working of the Constitution was set up on 22 February 2000, under Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Its chairman was former Chief Justice M. N. Venkatachaliah, and it had 11 members.

Its task was to review how the Constitution had worked, not to replace it, and to suggest changes within its basic structure. It reported in 2002.
