In 1917, Mahatma Gandhi was prosecuted for the Champaran Satyagraha. Gandhiji carried out his first major experiment of Satyagraha in 1917 in the Champaran district of Bihar. N. G. Ranga opposed Mahatma Gandhi’s Champaran Satyagraha. A few years after the Champaran Satyagraha, Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore addressed Gandhiji as “Mahatma”. However, no authentic primary source is available that mentions Rabindranath Tagore addressing Gandhiji as “Mahatma” during the Champaran Satyagraha.
