Correct answer: (a) 23 March, 1931

Explanation

Two members of the Hindustan Socialist Republican Association (H.S.R.A.), Bhagat Singh and Batukeshwar Dutt, threw bombs in the Central Legislative Assembly on 8 April, 1929. Both were arrested and tried under the Central Assembly Bomb Case. Later, other members of the H.S.R.A. were also arrested, and the revolutionaries were tried under the Lahore Conspiracy Case. In 1930, the judgment in the Lahore Conspiracy Case was delivered, in which Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev were sentenced to death. On 23 March, 1931, all three were hanged. The news of their execution plunged the entire country into deep mourning.
